The Force is strong with this merger. Disney announced on Tuesday that it had purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock shares.
In conjunction with the news, Disney also revealed that plans for a seventh "Star Wars" film, "Star Wars: Episode VII," are in motion with eyes on theatrical release in 2015.
During a conference call announcing the merger, it was reported that Disney executives said they wanted to release an "Episode VII" and "Episode IX" as well. The films would ideally reach theaters every two or three years.
"It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that 'Star Wars' could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime," Lucas, who directed four of the six "Star Wars" films, said in a statement.
"I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, 'Star Wars' will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. The court entered to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo,not guilty plea on a plunder charge on Monday, a case that will be a litmus test of the government's ability to tackle entrenched corruption in the poor Southeast Asian nation.
Arroyo ,on her behalf after she and her lawyer did not respond to the charge. Arroyo, wearing a pink shawl over a light pink dress and a neck brace, arrived in court in a wheelchair, smiling for photographers. She had two spinal operations two years ago.
We do not recognize the court's jurisdiction over this case," Raul Lambino, a lawyer and spokesman for the former president, told Reuters.
Raul Lambino, also a member of the lower house of Congress, said the case was "political persecution".
"She is sad over this case," he said, adding that Arroyo has a petition before the Supreme Court questioning the validity of the case and the court's jurisdiction to hear it.
Prosecutors accuse Arroyo and nine officials from the state lottery agency of misusing around 366 million pesos in sweepstakes funds, accusing them of transferring the money to an intelligence fund for her use.
Arroyo also faces separate corruption charges for her alleged role in the misuse of public funds and kickbacks from a multi-million telecommunications deal with China's ZTE Corp .
The public broadband deal was aborted in 2007. She is also on trial for electoral fraud.

In many ways landfall was just a small mile-marker on what officials said Monday would be a relatively long and hazardous road. The cost of the damage was already in the billions of dollars, and the tab was running because the largest waves will come later this evening as the tide becomes high.

Majority of colleges are joining the once-elite club of schools charging more than $50,000 per year.
The academic year for 2012-13 , 151 colleges charged annual tuition, fees, room and board totaling more than $50,000, according to College Board data analyzed by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
That's up from 123 schools last year, 100 schools the year before and only 58 schools the year before that.
One college even priced out of the $50,000 range this year, charging more than $60,000. Sarah Lawrence College, in Bronxville, N.Y., boasted a $61,236 sticker price -- which includes tuition, fees, room and board -- after hiking costs by 3.5% this year.
Selective liberal arts colleges like Wesleyan University, Vassar College, Williams College and Bowdoin College were among the most expensive schools, compare to Ivy Leagues like Harvard University, Stanford University and Dartmouth College.
In addition to being the priciest schools in the nation, at least 146 of the 151 schools charging $50,000-plus increased their costs this year apparently big amount to be increase.
But hikes weren't reserved for just the most expensive schools. Among the more than 3,000 schools in the Chronicle of Higher Education's database, more than half increased tuition, fees, room and board this year.

The Kidnappers attacked a 70 -year old owner of a gasoline station and her secretary were freed Wednesday evening morning in Maguindanao.
Annie Datuwata Cuan, owner of Petron Gas Station, and Christabelle Jorolan were released in Datu Piang between 2 a.m. to 3 a.m., Senior Superintendent Roque Alcantara, provincial police chief, said.
The businesswoman and Jorolan were abducted by a group of armed men in Libungan, North Cotabato last week.
The suspects escaped using a white van and headed towards the direction of Barangay Central Labas in Midsayap.
The getaway vehicle was later recovered by police.No ransom was paid for their release.
Alcantara said the release was made “due to the pressure of local government units and law enforcers.
”
The two were undergoing medical examinations, said Alcantara.
Alcantara make sure that five suspects have been identified and were now being hunted down by the authorities.
