The American Red Cross is working in 13 states in response to the superstorm. Nearly 200 of its response vehicles and more than 2,000 workers are beginning to distribute meals, water and snacks to people in the affected areas, the organization said.

That is the reason why,The American Red Cross will receive a $1 million donation from the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation to help its disaster relief efforts, the Foundation announced today.


According to S.I. Newhouse Jr. and Donald E. Newhouse the spoke speaker for the Samuel I,"It is with profound respect for the work of the American Red Cross that we send you this gift on behalf of our companies in New York, New Jersey and Delaware. We are pleased to be able to support your efforts to rebuild our storm-ravaged region," 


"In times like this," said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the Red Cross, "the American people rely on the Red Cross, and the Red Cross is so appreciative for the generous gift from the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation in support of our work."
